Hey Sweet Girls!
One of the greatest pieces of advice I got when I first came to college (and something I wish I had learned a long time ago) was this simple statement:
Don't take yourself too seriously.
Now don't get me wrong... you should definitely take certain things in your life seriously, like your studies, your work, etc. However, when it comes to the little things that you say and do in your everyday life, there's no point in stressing over all the small things. It seems like such a simple idea, yet we're all guilty of doing it!
I had to read a book the other day called "Welcome to College: The Christ-Follower's Guide for the Journey" by Jonathan Morrow. Throughout the assigned reading, there was one passage that really stuck out to me, that I want to share with you guys to read and remember. It goes a little something like this: "Like everyone else, you will have your moments of wanting to go crawl under a rock and hide out of embarrassment and awkwardness. Many situations will feel like they are the end of the world; they aren't. You are going to have some bad days. It's kind of like a rite of passage. If you can't laugh in the moment, you will definitely laugh later!" (12).
This is so important for you guys to remember! There may be bad days, and there may be embarrassing moments that make you want to run and hide and never face the world again. But when you look back on them I think you will realize that they really weren't as bad as you thought they were. I can almost guarantee that you will look back and laugh at some point. And if that's the case, you might as well learn to just laugh in the moment as well!
Until next time,
Molly
